How Do I Improve My Candidate Experience?

Nowadays, candidate experience is everything.  From the first phone call to onboarding, a positive candidate experience can be the differentiating factor between a positive attitude toward your company and a negative one.  How do you make sure candidates are having a positive experience?  There are many tactics that you can implement to ensure your candidates are having a positive experience while going through the hiring process:

1. Plan it

Planning out your hiring process can help the candidate go through each new section easier and seamlessly.  This will make the hiring process both timely and efficient for the candidate and the employer.  Make sure recruiters know how the process works from beginning to end, so they can better guide the candidate through each step of the hiring process.

2. Try it out

Another tip is to try it out yourself!  This is a great tip for owners of companies to make sure that the hiring process is reflecting who they are as a business.  Go through the process anonymously in order to get the experience that every other candidate is getting, so you can see strengths and weaknesses.  You can then bring these points up to your team and continue to improve your hiring process.

3. Positive people

Positive people make a positive environment.  If your recruiter is not positive, how could you expect your candidate to have a positive experience.  Make sure that you are hiring people who are passionate about what they are doing.  Also, make sure that they are staying engaged and happy at work.  if they are not happy in the work place, that attitude will trickle down into the workplace.

4.  Stress the importance

Be sure and go over the importance of a positive candidate experience with those that are guiding the candidate through the hiring process. Outline the impacts that can occur from a negative hiring experience vs. a positive one.  

5. Follow up

Finally, following up with the candidate can be crucial when providing a positive experience.  Not only does it show that you care about their experience, but it also provides you with answers on what worked and what didn't.  Consider a follow-up survey or email to see how they would rate their experience, and ask for feedback on how you could improve.

In Conclusion, these are just unofficial tips that can be used to make sure you are giving a great first impression to candidates.  By implementing these practices, you will improve on how potential candidates view your company.  Having a positive attitude towards your company will help you attract the talent you want and the talent you need.
