Do's and Don'ts in Healthcare

Resumes can be a challenge to write.  It is composed of much more than just dates of your past employments.  It is very important to organize your resume correctly.  The two most popular ways of organizing a resume are functional and chronological.  A functional format lists your experiences in order of how significant your work experience is in relation to the job you are applying for.  This is best used when you change career paths, so employers can quickly see your relevant work experience.  A chronological resume begins with the most recent experience and working your way backward, This format puts your work experience and education in chronological order.  As a healthcare professional, there are some do's and don'ts  for your resume.

Do's

1. Emphasize Your Achievements

Employers are mainly concerned with your accomplishments.  You need to provide your potential employer with proof as to why you are the perfect candidate for the job.

2.  Create a Snapshot

Create a short summary of your past experiences.  Your resume should be a snapshot of your past experiences not a long and detailed list of your experiences.

3.  Double check your spelling and grammar

A resume with errors does not make a good first impression with your future employer.  One suggestion is to have another person take a second look at your resume.  They may find something that you didn't see.

Don'ts

1.  Exaggerate information

Stay honest about your accomplishments.  Your potential employer will be checking to make sure that the information you provide is accurate.

2.  Create a shopping list

Do not list all of your accomplishments in a shopping list format.  There are better ways to do this.  In order to draw your readers in

3.  Choose the wrong format

Choosing the right format is very important and something that can be a challenge.  As mentioned earlier, the two most common are the functional and chronological formats.  There is not a right or wrong choice.  Take a look at your resume content and choose which one will persuade your readers to call you.
