RPO Project Initiation

The RPO Roadmap is comprised of three main elements:

In this blog, we are focusing on Project Initiation.  Check out our blog over the next couple of weeks to learn more about the other steps involved in the RPO process.

What does project initiation look like?

During the project initiation stage, the leadership is in the weeds.  In the beginning the reliance on leadership is immensely high, but with time starts to dwindle.  The Process variations reveal themselves, and you start to experience group development stages.  Communication patterns are established and organizational recruiting patterns are identified.

What are the threats to avoid?

There are many threats to avoid during this stage.  One big item to avoid is leadership fatigue.  Because reliance on leadership is so heavy in the beginning of this stage, leadership can become unmotivated quickly.

Additionally, you should avoid believing the process was fully defined and understood.  Make sure everyone on your team understands what is going on, don't just assume.

Thirdly, do not overreact to the storming stage.  Stay positive throughout the process!

Furthermore, you should not allow informal governance and escalation.  Create a formal plan to help lead you

Finally, do not minimize the extra-recruiter factors in recruitment!  Maximize all opportunities!

What are the best practices?

There are several best practices that should be followed during Project Initiation stage.

  1. 1:1 key leadership partnership and over-communication
  2. Carefully track variations and manage perception
  3. Zero fault issue tracking and root cause resolution
  4. Design for data, relationship, and outcomes
  5. Manage to recruiting fundamentals and leading indicators

By following this roadmap, you will set yourself up for success!
