How To Move Up The Ladder In Your Career

Most employees start their job with hopes of moving up the ladder.  What steps should you take to continue to move upwards?  Here are some tips:

Create a clear career path

Before you take any steps, you need to have a goal in mind.  Before you get from Point A to Point C, you need to know what Point C is.  This is where a clear career roadmap can come in handy.  Make a list of all the things you know you can do well, and another list of all the things that you want to do in the future.  By doing so, you can get started on creating an action plan.

Do the work

Don't think that you can achieve your goals by "winging it."  You are going to have to have dedication and put in a lot of hard work.  If you need to take an online course, read books, or take a job to learn more skills, do it.  Don't hesitate to better yourself.

Focus on networking

"It isn't what you know it's who you know."  This statement is true 99% of the time.  The best way to advance your career is to get to know others in your industry.  You never know what kind of opportunity will arise.  Network by attending industry events and talk to people about your experiences and careers.  This will also help to develop face to face skills.

Seek out a mentor

Finding a mentor can be very beneficial.  Choose a mentor that has followed a similar career path as your own and one who you feel can benefit you the most moving forward.  You will have the upper hand because they will help you learn form their mistakes.  They can tell you what works and what doesn't

By following these tips you will be well on your way to taking your career to the next level!
