What Would You Sacrifice for a Job?

Memorial Day

Honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their job

If you talk to anyone who’s been out of work for a while, they’d probably say that they’d do just about anything for a job.  Nowadays, America’s unemployed are making tough choices  to make ends meet.  Some are settling for part-time work just to keep the lights on…and some are taking on multiple jobs because they have multiple mouths to feed.  It’s a sad reality that has become the norm for many people in this country.  Despite all the sacrifices made by America’s workforce today, no burden can be as great as those endured by the men and women of our law enforcement and military.

Before these folks can even throw on their uniforms and call themselves “official” they have to successfully complete a rigorous and lengthy training program.  From running for extended periods of time, to being tasered or tear-gassed, a “newly enlisted” is subjected to long bouts of physical pain.  In addition to building their endurance, trainees constantly have to face tests of mental toughness.  After all, one must be able to maintain their cool in many different high-pressure situations.

Once the “best of the best” graduate from their respective training programs, our new police officers and soldiers are suited up and sent out in the field.  Some face danger every day on our own turf.  Some are shipped overseas, left without seeing their loved ones for a long time.  And those who are put in harm’s way, whether to keep crime off our streets, or fighting for a worldly cause in another country, are blessed to return home to see another day.  However, as we know, many aren’t lucky enough to survive every fight.  Those who have lost their lives have made the ultimate sacrifice, just by doing their job.  On this Memorial Day, we honor these heroes, but the gratitude and respect for the fallen must continue on well after the grill is cooled and paraded streets are emptied.  Without their bravery, we wouldn’t be fortunate to have the freedoms we so often take for granted.

The Job.com Team wishes you and your loved ones a Happy Memorial Day.

  1. I did not want anybody to sacrifice the happiness of their lives for a job. That’s why I created a job search engine for such people. It only lists the jobs where people can enjoy their lives to the fullest.
